In short
What is adverse media?
Adverse media is negative coverage of individuals or companies in news media, court records, and other public sources. This includes fraud, corruption, money laundering, or sanctions.
What does Trust Alliance do?
We provide adverse media monitoring via Owlin, a platform that searches millions of sources worldwide and automatically delivers relevant signals to you.
For whom?
Organizations that want to continuously know if there is negative news coverage about their relations, to supplement sanction and PEP screening.
Adverse Media Monitoring
Know what is being written about your relations
Sanction lists and PEP databases tell you who is officially sanctioned. Adverse media tells you what is being written about someone in practice. Those are two different types of risk information that complement each other.
Trust Alliance delivers adverse media monitoring via Owlin, a platform that continuously searches millions of news articles, blogs, court records, and other public sources in more than 100 languages. Relevant signals are automatically filtered and presented to you.
You can use Owlin for ongoing monitoring of your existing relationships, for screening during onboarding of new clients, and as part of your EDD investigations. We guide the implementation and ensure it aligns with your existing compliance processes.
Continuous monitoring
Owlin continuously searches for new reports about your business relations. As soon as something relevant appears, you will receive a notification.
More than 100 languages
Adverse media is not only an English-language phenomenon. Owlin searches sources worldwide, including in local languages and regional media.
Smartly filtered
Not every piece of negative news is relevant. Owlin filters for risk relevance so that you only see signals that actually require attention.
Adverse media as part of your compliance program

Frequently asked questions
Is adverse media monitoring mandatory?
Under the AMLA (WWFT), you are obliged to include negative media coverage in your client due diligence in the event of an increased risk. Adverse media is also one of the pillars of Enhanced Due Diligence. For organizations without a formal obligation, it is an effective way to manage reputational risk.
How many sources does Owlin search?
Owlin continuously searches hundreds of millions of articles from news sites, blogs, court registries, and other public sources in more than 100 languages. The database is updated daily.
How do I prevent too much noise in the alerts?
Owlin filters based on risk relevance and learns from your feedback. We assist you with the initial setup of the filters so that you receive relevant signals without being overwhelmed.
Can we combine adverse media with our other screening?
Yes. Adverse media works best as a supplement to sanction and PEP screening. We help you set up an integrated screening program where all three layers work together.
